Commonsense and Embodied Agents A Panel Discussion

چکیده
We are not distinguishing the terms “embodied agent” and “cognitive robot.” The panelists were chosen from among the expected attendees of Commonsense 2001 as researchers who have had experience implementing embodied agents, or as representatives of research groups that have implemented embodied agents. The research groups represented by the panelists (whether they, themselves, are implementors or theorists), each at the panelist’s respective university, are:

Ethnomethodology and Conversational Analysis
In a speech community, people utilize their communicative competence which they have acquired from their society as part of their distinctive sociolinguistic identity. They negotiate and share meanings, because they have commonsense knowledge about the world, and have universal practical reasoning. Their commonsense knowledge is embodied in their language. Thus, not only does social life depend...
متن کاملEmbodied Question Answering
We present a new AI task – Embodied Question Answering (EmbodiedQA) – where an agent is spawned at a random location in a 3D environment and asked a question (‘What color is the car?’). In order to answer, the agent must first intelligently navigate to explore the environment, gather information through first-person (egocentric) vision, and then answer the question (‘orange’). This challenging ...

متن کاملNeuroscientific implications for situated and embodied artificial intelligence
While classic AI systems still struggle to properly incorporate commonsense knowledge, Situated and Embodied Artificial Intelligence (SEAI) aims to build animats that acquire a commonsense understanding of the world via interactions between simulated brains, bodies and environments. Neuroscientists believe that much of this common sense involves predictive models for physical activities, but th...
متن کاملCommonsense Scene Semantics for Cognitive Robotics
We present a commonsense, qualitative model for the semantic grounding of embodied visuo-spatial and locomotive interactions. The key contribution is an integrative methodology combining low-level visual processing with high-level, human-centred representations of space and motion rooted in artificial intelligence. We demonstrate practical applicability with examples involving object interactio...
